Hosting Tiffin's First Multi-Genre Music Festival
Event planning, stage management, and keeping the cables straight
September 7th, 2024
In mid 2024, Brad Rees pitched an idea: an inter-genre, all night music festival with young, up-and-coming bands, hosted at the Frost Kalnow Amphitheater in downtown Tiffin. This would be the first event of its kind aimed at the younger college crowd in Tiffin, as many of the acts that performed at the East Green concert series were more established jazz or classic rock acts that appealed to the older population (not to mention the first music festival ever hosted at the amphitheater).
I was part of the small 3 person team charged with planning and executing this event: Brad Rees was our Executive Producer, Maddie Huwe was our Artist & Vendor Coordinator, and I was our Tech Director & Stage Manager. I was brought on a short 3 months before the show was scheduled, and it seemed an impossible task. But together, we planned a 6 band lineup that brought in a crowd of hundreds of people, and went off without a hitch.
Our planning and my stage management day-of saw less than 15 minute load in/load out between each act, and we stayed ahead of schedule the entire day. Even with Brad unfortunately falling ill the night before, cutting our already small team down to 2 people, the festival was considered a smashing success by the benefactors, and will influence the future events at the amphitheater for years to come.
